COVID-19: Its Impact on Our Relationship with the Environment

The spread of the COVID-19 virus has had a huge effect on agro tourism and the world, with thousands sick, businesses and classes put on hold, people stuck at home, and several countries on lockdown. But, there is at least one silver lining amid this global pandemic—Mother Earth taking a breather from human activity.

Yes, coronavirus may be affecting nature ecotourism at present, but we at Concordia Estate believe that time will tell a different story. With many people hitting the pause button from work, nights out, and the like, animals and the environment have been thriving. Water is becoming clearer and birds are chirping. There are cleaner air and less pollution. Nature is happy again.

When the quarantine periods end, and we resume our day-to-day activities, let us remember the impact our actions have on the environment, agriculture, and the other creatures that dwell in it.

COVID-19: Its Impact on Our Relationship with the Environment

Our world has taken good care of us. Now that we have become aware of the way we have been treating it, let us give back to the environment. Do not let the good things that have happened to the Earth over the past few weeks be merely temporary. We should let this serve as our wake-up call that the environment deserves better than our previous actions.

Protecting every ocean, rain forest, and wildlife on the planet begins with us. The following things may seem ordinary, but they can make an extraordinary difference in saving our environment. The best part? You can do these even while under home quarantine.

  • Throw away fewer things.
When you become more aware of the environment, your trash should be less full. You will be amazed to learn how many things can get repurposed or reused instead of being discarded right away.
  • Get educated.
When you read more about the environment and the effects your daily actions have on it, you will be able to recognize the value of our Earth’s natural resources.
  • Avoid wasting water.
Every drop of water counts. Not everybody has access to clean, usable water. Let us not waste this gift. Something as simple as not leaving the water running while you are soaping your hands or brushing your teeth can really help!
  • Turn off the lights when they are not being used.
Develop the habit of turning off lights every time you leave the room. This can save you money and energy. After all, there is no need to light up a room that is not being used. Also, since lights can make a room hotter, you can save on cooling costs.
  • Work from home.
Working from home is a rare opportunity. However, because of COVID-19, many companies have opted to let their employees do so for the time being. If you are one of these individuals, you are lucky. You can spend more time with your loved ones, save on gas, and, not to mention, save the planet while you are at it.
